Cataracts

Learn how cataract surgery can help improve your vision!
Cataracts are the most common vision problem in adults over 60. Worldwide, cataract surgery is the most common surgery performed, and the one with the highest success rate-over 98%! It has even been proven in a large scientific study that cataract surgery can increase your life span by lowering the risk of falling and sustaining a hip fracture! Dr. Shechter has performed more than 8,000 cases in her career.

At Phoenixville Eye Care Specialists, we pride ourselves in offering state-of-the-art technology in a traditional, highly personalized setting. Surgery is performed as an outpatient at one of our two facilities, Surgery Center at Limerick and the award-winning Physicians Care Surgical Hospital. Dr. Shechter is proud to be a founding physician of PCSH. Typical surgeries are painless and take about 15 minutes under mild anesthesia. Patients are back home in no more than a few hours and recovery is easy with minimal restrictions. Usually no preoperative lab work or testing is needed.

With today's techniques, a majority of patients will find that they will have reduced need for glasses and often will only need reading glasses afterward. Patients with glaucoma are usually good candidates for surgery and studies have shown that patients often require less or no glaucoma medication after their cataract surgery.

Dr. Shechter uses the latest, state-of-the-art implants and equipment at both facilities and work with highly skilled OR staff and anesthetists. The doctors typically do all the postoperative care themselves but are happy to work with a patient's own referring optometrist. Our surgical coordinator, Bonnie Ely x 134, is available to answer your questions at any time.

Introducing the TECNIS Eyhance IOL for cataract surgery

Dr Shechter is pleased to provide Johnson and Johnson’s latest monofocal intraocular lens implant for her cataract surgery patients. This lens IS covered by insurance but is not available everywhere. Both her surgical centers are committed to the best possible surgical outcome and are providing this IOL. This IOL is truly state of the art.

The Johnson and Johnson TECNIS Eyhance gives excellent distance vision but also functional intermediate vision, unlike previous monofocal IOLs. It provides intermediate vision but without the glare and halo commonly found in multifocal IOLs. It works well in lowlight and the intermediate is great for smartphone usage. It’s “the lens with benefits”. Because it is FDA approved as a monofocal lens, it is covered by insurance.

Dr Shechter has used Johnson and Johnson IOLs for years because their quality bar none is the best and they are always a leader in new technologies for improving vision.
